Three Tips For Creating a Happier and More Productive Staff

  • The Staffing Fitness Team

A happy staff is a productive staff. Studies show that the more contented an employee is with the company that they work for, the better their work will be. It’s only natural. When a good employee feels that their role in the company is valued, they will be sure to work even harder and more thoroughly, whatever the job may be. Here are three tips that will boost employee morale, productivity, and efficiency in the workplace.

Offer incentives for reaching milestones

Little things have huge impacts on employees’ mindsets towards their job. Create specific goals that you want to reach within your business, and then create small incentives for individuals and teams when they reach those milestones. When you are choosing your incentives, make sure that they are fair and inclusive of everyone. Make sure that you can live up to providing these incentives when employees earn them.

An incentive for a daily goal could be something small, like a free drink or snack. An incentive for a larger goal might be something like a gift card. People in general tend to like recognition. Taking the time to publicly announce how well an employee did will be sure to motivate them even more.

Make the workplace more bearable in any small way that you can

Sometimes it will benefit employees (and the workplace as a whole) to receive accommodations that are not necessarily due to an injury or other serious reason. For example, an employee may become very overwhelmed at a rush of customers for long periods of time. Take notes about your employees’ personalities and reactions to certain environments.

While you are busy creating a happy and productive workplace environment, don’t forget that productivity starts with the employee’s overall mindset. Start with filling your workplace with employees that you already know are good workers. From then on, everything else will be very easy.

Remember that we are all human, and humans all have different personalities and needs. What may be very easy to one person, can be extremely difficult to another. Assign tasks based on each employee’s most noticeable strengths. Be sure to personally ask them about their preferences as well.

Keep rules consistent and fair

Only make exceptions when they are absolutely reasonable and based on facts. Never allow your own emotions to override a decision. Although you may feel compelled to do a favor for an employee, always think about how this action might make other employees feel.

Rules in workplaces always tend to spill out to the customer’s end of things as well. Customers can be very perceptive and notice when one employee is frustrated, or if another employee is getting “special treatment”.

Many times, decisions are not easy. This is especially difficult for managers or business owners that have created a strong bond with their employees. Just remember to maintain an equal and reputable standing with all of your employees. This means that you cannot do  something for one person if you would not do it for everyone.

Overall, building a happy and productive work environment will benefit all aspects of the company. As with any other smart investment, making small investments in your employees will prove to be very profitable and beneficial in the long run.
